U.S. Amateur Championship at The Olympic Club
The Olympic Club is proud to have been selected by the United States Golf Association to host the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship.
The 2025 championship will be contested at the Club for the fourth time and in California for the tenth time. The San Francisco Bay Area is fortunate to have a vibrant golf community, and we look forward to celebrating that during the championship.
The U.S. Amateur Championship was established in 1895 and is open to amateurs who hold a USGA Handicap Index of 2.4 or less. The U.S. Amateur features an elite field of national and international players who advance through state and sectional qualifiers to gain entry into the championship.
Past participants and champions include a “who’s who” of professional golf. Since the early days of Chick Evans and Bobby Jones, the USGA’s Amateur Championship has identified the game’s next generation of stars. Renown names to every golf fan — Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, among many others — learned to compete at the highest level in this very championship. The Olympic Club is excited to welcome golf’s rising young players to its storied courses in August 2025. No doubt, the next generation of stars will see their careers propelled at The Olympic Club.

Just Be Patient: A Brief History of the U.S. Amateur at The Olympic Club
As one of the oldest amateur athletic clubs in the country, with a goal to “foster amateur athletics in a spirit of close harmony,” it is the Club's honor to again host the nation’s premier amateur golf championship and the oldest of the USGA’s events, the U.S. Amateur Championship. With this championship, The Olympic Club will have played host to 12 USGA championships, half of them amateur championships: the U.S. Amateur in 1958, 1981, 2007 and 2025, the 2004 U.S. Junior Amateur and the inaugural U.S. Four-Ball Championship in 2015. It is a list that few clubs can match.
Montana and Rice - It's Not Football
What do an NFL Hall of Fame quarterback and a former U.S. Secretary of State have in common?
Besides the fact that they both went to Notre Dame, and they love golf and football, Joe Montana and Secretary Condoleezza Rice will be the honorary co-chairs of the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship at The Olympic Club, August 11–17.
The Olympic Club Hosts the 125th U.S. Amateur
If you could turn back time, would you walk the course with Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer or Tiger Woods during one of their big tournament victories? Before becoming golf legends, each of them won the U.S. Amateur; in fact, Woods took home the Havemeyer Trophy three years in a row.
