Inducted: 2010

A native San Franciscan and UC Berkeley graduate, Alex Eichmann was introduced to the sport by accident through a last semester phys-ed class given by famed UC Squash Coach, Ralph Miller. Largely self- taught and at times mentored by Miller, he became a dominate force in Pacific Coast squash during the 1960’s and 1970’s.

He captured over 40 titles, with multiple wins in the Pacific Coast, California State, Northern California and prominent statewide Invitational Championships. He was the captain of the Pacific Coast Team that won the 1974 U.S. Squash Team Championship. He holds a 3-2 edge in competition with Victor Niederhoffer, five-time US National Squash Champion and Squash Hall of Fame member. He was a six-time Olympic Club Squash Champion and served on the Club’s Athletic Committee and as its Squash Commissioner.

He also gave back to the sport, becoming the owner and operator of the first publicly accessible squash club facility in California, the Peninsula Squash Club in San Mateo 1975. He later opened the Squash Club of San Francisco in 1980. He was joint founder of the Northern California Squash Association and President of the Pacific Coast Squash Association. He was inducted into U.S. Squash Hall of Fame.
