Randy Haag (1959–) is one of the most accomplished amateur golfers in California. A mainstay on the Northern California scene, he’s a longtime proponent of side-saddle, or face-on, putting. And his break from tradition clearly works, as he’s a (record) six-time NCGA Player of the Year, the 1993 California Amaetur of the Year, a five-time USGA Mid-Amateur quarter finalist, and twice the low amateur in the British Senior Open in 2010 and 2011.

An Orinda, CA native, Haag went to Campolindo High School in Moraga and attended San Diego State University. At his home course (he joined the OC in 1984), he is an eight-time Club champion and seven-time Stroke Play champion. He was awarded the 2007 Olympian Award, the same year he overcame devastating injuries to become the oldest qualifier to make match play at the 2007 U.S. Amateur at The Olympic Club.
He also won the 1999 San Francisco City Golf Championship and the 2016 and 2018 City Senior Championships. He won the NCGA Amateur in 1992 and 1993 and the Stocker Cup in 1993, 1997, 2004 and 2011. He played on seven North/South teams and three winning Pacific Coast Amateur Morse Cup teams.
In over 40 years of playing in NCGA events, Haag has accumulated more points than any other player in history, while racking up over 200 tournament victories. And he’s not slowing down yet. He finished T16 at the 2016 British Senior Open. With fellow OC member Jason Anthony, he claimed two NCGA Mid-Amateur Four-Ball titles in three years (2016 and 2018). He was named the NCGA Senior Player of the Year in 2017 and, in 2018, he was inducted into the NCGA Hall of Fame. We celebrate his accomplishments and look forward to many more.
